Employment
Teachers at the American Language Center are dedicated professionals with their students as their first interest. They are collegial workers who are knowledgeable about the various teaching techniques and the unique challenges posed to learners of English. They are committed to the mission of the school and use a variety of strategies to meet learning objectives. All teachers at the ALC possess at least a Bachelor's degree and are certified in teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Full time teachers usually have 18-22 contact hours per week during the main terms. Work is mainly English teaching in the classroom, but may include facilitating activities such as the ALC newsletter, the student drama club, or other extra-curriculular student activities. Most teaching takes place on weekday afternoons and evenings and on weekends. Teachers new to Morocco are asked to arrive in advance of the term with time to find housing and participate in orientation and training. All new teachers are required to attend the orientation program prior to their first term teaching. This year’s
start date for new teachers from abroad is September 15, 2011.
Please note that by Moroccan law we are unable to employ teachers who are 60 years or above in age.
Salary and Benefits
Full-time salaries offered by the ALC Rabat allow teachers to live comfortably in Rabat and are commensurate with experience. Salaries are in Moroccan dirhams, but foreign nationals may convert their earnings to foreign currency once they have been working in Morocco for 3 months. In addition to the basic salary, all teachers are offered medical insurance for a modest fee, which covers 80% of most medical and certain dental expenses. Other
benefits include paid sick time (30 hours of sick pay per year), vacation pay, and free ongoing instruction in Moroccan Dialect, Standard Arabic, or French. Support for professional development is provided in the form of free training, regular workshops, and an all expenses paid trip to the annual All-ALC TEFL Conference. Finally, free internet/e-mail access, free access to our library, and a discount at the ALC Rabat bookstore are provided.

We are currently accepting applications for the 2011-2012 academic year, and will begin accepting applications for the 2012-2013 academic year in January 2012.
A group organized by the ALC community service program visited a home for the elderly yesterday. A wonderful experience for all, apparently.
